IT 'cowboys' ride into sunset

Hinshaw 曾计划关闭他的 IT 公司，享受下天伦之乐，但前客户仍然不停的找上门。2013 年，他创办了一家新公司叫 COBOL 牛仔，名字借自 Space Cowboys，20 名牛仔干得都是兼职，大多数人都已经到了退休年龄，还有少数“年轻人”也已经四五十岁了。随着 COBOL 程序员年事已高，要找到能修理 COBOL 问题的人越来越难。

Hinshaw 说，他在 1970 年代为银行写的部分软件仍然在使用。他说，为了避免严重故障客户愿意不惜一切代价，甚至愿意提供全职工作。一位 60 多岁的 COBOL 程序员在 2012 年遭到解雇，被年轻程序员替代，但 2014 年原雇主又找到了他，去修复管理层没有预料的问题。
